Austin Events

The month of May is a great time to get out and experience the best that Austin, Texas offers. With cool weather firmly in the past, and the hot summer temperatures not yet present, Austin weather is often ideal. May is also the month of Memorial Day Weekend. In addition to the numerous visitor attractions Austin is known for, there are also quite a few annual events and festivals taking place this month.

Here are three such fun annual Austin May events:

#1. Pecan Street Festival

Held each spring and fall, the two day Pecan Street Festival is Austin’s largest art festival, drawing as many as 300,000 attendees each season. During the downtown festival, several blocks of 6th Street (originally known as Pecan Street) are closed to all traffic except the pedestrian kind. With hundreds of booths featuring independent artists and artisans, food vendors, live music stages, and activities and entertainment for the kids, there’s definitely something for everyone. Factor in numerous popular downtown Austin restaurants within walking distance of the festival, and it’s no wonder this has become such an Austin favorite.

#2. Austin Wine Festival

Scheduled each Memorial Day Weekend, the three day Austin Wine Festival has become a big hit since it debuted in 2007. The festival is located at The Domain, a high-end retail and restaurant complex in North Austin. With plenty of parking and participation of more than 30 Texas wineries and even more vendors offering numerous gourmet foods and wine accessories, this is a terrific opportunity to discover new quality wines right in your own back yard.

#3. Fiesta Amistad

Fiesta Amistad (“Friendship Festival”) has been celebrated in Round Rock, Texas (just a few minutes north of Austin) every Memorial Day Weekend since 1970. The family-oriented festival features tons of live music, food vendors, a classic car show, and lots of children’s games and activities. Conveniently located at the Old Settlers Association next to Dell Diamond off Hwy 79, Fiesta Amistad has grown into the largest two day Hispanic event in Central Texas.
